The 8th release of Black Falcon Software’s Military Simulation Workbench, MSWorkbench system is now available…
This release of MSWorkbench is a major maintenance release and concentrates on making it easier for interested developers to convert the project to C# with the use of the OPTION STRICT ON directive. This directive resolves the casting issues that would arise when making a conversion to C# without this directive set to ON. Seven projects out of the 10 projects in the system have been recompiled with OPTION STRICT ON. The three remaining projects that have not been recompiled in this way have been left as is due to specific reasons, which are now outlined in the accompanying HELP File.
The other major update is the removal of all Syncfusion WPF interface controls while being replaced with the standard Microsoft WPF controls. This will make it easier for an eventual implementation for the cross-platform Avalonia-WPF Conrol Suite.
It should be noted that the developer should not experience any changes in how the interface operates as all replaced controls will operate in he same manner as the original Syncfusion controls did. This was possible due to the assistance with some of the required, interface, internal code being provided by DeepSeek-AI.
By using .NET 8 as the system’s framework, implementing the OPTION STRICT ON directive, and the removal of the Syncfusion conrols, it brings the entire system closer to being completely cross-platform that would be capable of running on Linux or even Mac systems.
It is asked that the developer interested in this project please read through the HELP File after downloading and unzipping the source code. The HELP File (‘chm) can be found in the “bin” directory of the MSWorkbench project.
The MSWorkbench is a system that is expected to provide a number of tools, beyond the current database sub-system, to assist game developers with creating their own military simulations. This genre is still one of the most difficult aspects of game programming. This is not just because of the difficulty with such development but more so as a result of the lack of developed ecosystems for developing such simulations. Currently, the majority of such endeavors are still done on an individual or small company basis, developed specifically for the type of simulations being created. And this will probably remain such a feature of this type of development for quite sometime.
Due to the complexity of this project, if you require assistance with any aspect of this system or the necessary SQL coding that you may require for your own development efforts, please contact this site through its Contact form or directly with the following email address… blackfalconsoftware@outlook.com
